WHY did I decide to listen: to Pitchfork's top 50 albums of 2024 [50 - 36]

Sometimes I find great music on pitchfork so I decided to listen to their top 50 and provide my thoughts.  This will be three parts: the bottom 15, the middle 15, and the top 20.

https://pitchfork.com/features/lists-and-guides/best-albums-2024/

First impressions of the list before listening: I am not sure how they compile this list, because there is a good variety of genres on here (ty to Claire for pointing this out to me). The Cure? Where is all the synth pop? ;) Where is all the metal? There is no way Sabrina Carpenter is better than Chat Pile (which didn't even make it on the list). Origami Angel? Not sure what demographic Pitchfork is going for based on the bottom 15.

50 - 35

50: Wendy Eisenberg: Viewfinder

- I found this album grating to listen to, and I didn't like the theme of laser eye surgery. 2/5

49: Chief Keef: Almighty So 2

- This was surprising. Based on how the rest of the bottom 10 went, I think this should have been higher on the list. 3.5/5

48: Djrum: Meaning’s Edge EP

- Pretty bland but technically fine. Rip off of Andre3000, tbh. 2.5/5

47: Helado Negro: Phasor

- I do not remember anything from this album. Forgettable, but pleasant. 2.5/5

46: Chanel Beads: Your Day Will Come

- Alright. I think the lyrics could be better, but the sound was nice. I think this would be cool to see live. 3/5

45: 454: Casts of a Dreamer

- Nice beats, weird vocals. Not my thing, but I could see how some people would be into it. Unrated.

44: Milan W.: Leave Another Day

- Reminded me of Grouper. Not bad. Not especially captivating either. Nice album art. 2.5/5

43: [Ahmed]: Wood Blues

- I like jazz. I did not like this. Please do not take offence if you liked it. I thought this was a chore to listen to. 2/5

42: Loidis: One Day

- This is what I think I sound like when I beat box. 3/5

41: Ryuichi Sakamoto: Opus

- Very sentimental and moving. Pretty sad to listen to. 4/5

40: Erika de Casier: Still

- Enjoyable, but not very original. 3/5

39: This Is Lorelei: Box for Buddy, Box for Star

- Slightly better than average indie. 3/5

38: Being Dead: EELS

- The first song was great, and then the album nose-dived. 1.5/5

37: Lisha G / Trini Viv: Groovy Steppin Sh*t

Sigh. I thought the list would be getting better and not worse. Surprised that Chief Keef did as well as he did amongst the bottom 15. 1.5/5

36: Kali Uchis: ORQUÍDEAS

- Her voice is great and there are some good songs on this album, but there are a few songs that are so irritating that I needed to skip them. An inconsistent album with some good vibes. 2.5/5

Stay tuned for 35 - 21.

Highlights were #49 and #41.
