Hey everyone,
This week my pick of the week was “Southern Rock Opera” by Drive-By Truckers.
This album is the kind of thing you want to hear if you were driving with the windows down, through the countryside. I could see myself pulling up to a gas station with this album blasting. However, I don't have a car. I do have a set of speakers beside my computer in the lab. So, I blasted this in the lab when I was working on a paper this Sunday. I felt really cool.
One of my favourite songs has a line about Neil Young being an out-of-touch Canadian, which I thought was hilarious (as a fellow out-of-touch Canadian). Don’t take it personally, Canadians, DBT frequently covers Neil Young live, including a recent performance that includes the special guest MJ Lenderman (https://youtube.com/watch?v=IADvEPa7L5I&si=Diy8UOVQ8ZAWlp0R).
Overall, I give this album a 4/5. I love the vocals and the lyrics. Check it out.
Honourable mention:
Two Star & The Dream Police by Mk.Gee
This has been on heavy rotation, but since I reviewed it for my post, I didn’t want to review it again.
