Ev’s Pick of the week [Featured Album Friday]: MOSAIC

Ambient music is hard to get right. It needs to sit somewhere between being memorable and not particularly engaging. I think the best ambient music is kind of like a good meditation—you notice it, but it mostly passes you by. I stumbled onto this album Mosaic by Fennesz a couple of weeks ago, and I’ve had it on pretty consistently. It reminds me a little bit of good albums/collections (Replica, Japanese ambient), but it is different enough. The music feels hazy, like a late afternoon in July or August, or the early morning in October. The album also reminds me of being by the water and the feeling of doing nothing—maybe fishing, maybe lying in the grass.

This album may be a nice addition to your relaxation time this break. I encourage you to take some time and disconnect. Close your eyes and listen to the peaceful sounds this album is filled with. If you don’t find it peaceful, turn it off. We may have different tastes.
